Lessons from the Field: Elevating Real Estate Practice Beyond Just Selling

In the past few weeks, my work at the Coast, particularly around Pazuri at Vipingo and Sunset Creek Kilifi, has offered valuable lessons not only about selling property, but about building trust, vision, and long-term relationships in real estate. I was selling luxury apartments in the heart of Nairobi, fast-paced deals, walk-ins every hour, skyline views. Then life shifted, and my desk moved to Vipingo, Kilifi

At first, I questioned myself…

“Am I ready to start a new?”

“Will I still close deals?”

“Is this a step forward or sideways?”

As agents, it’s easy to focus on the next sale, but true success in this industry comes from mastering three key pillars: education, experience, and empathy.

1. Educate Your Clients, Don’t Just Sell to Them
Today’s clients are well informed. They don’t just want to be told about a property, they want to understand the value behind it. Whether it’s ROI potential, rental yields, or community growth plans, our role is to provide market insight that empowers them to make confident decisions. At projects like Sunset Creek, showing clients the infrastructure development, upcoming amenities, and lifestyle potential has been more convincing than any sales pitch.

2. Create an Experience, Not a Transaction
From how we handle site visits to how we follow up, every step defines our brand. When I meet clients at the coast, I’ve learned to make the visit an experience, from a warm welcome to helping them visualize their future home. The goal is for them to feel the lifestyle, not just see the land.

3. Build Relationships That Outlive the Sale
Real estate is a people business. The trust we build determines our long-term success. I’ve found that checking in even after the sale, sharing construction progress or inviting clients for open days, creates loyalty that brings referrals and repeat buyers.

4. Leverage Location and Community Growth
Places like Vipingo and Kilifi are evolving fast. With improved roads, tourism growth, and new lifestyle amenities like golf resorts, the real estate value curve is rising steadily. As agents, positioning ourselves where development is heading not just where it already is keeps us ahead of the curve.

The real estate business is shifting from selling property to selling possibilities. And as agents, our greatest tool isn’t persuasion, it’s knowledge and authenticity.

Let’s keep learning, adapting, and raising the standard "Growth happens when you step out of comfort zones."
